GENERAL INFORMATION
The four-semester College was established by the Steirischer Hotelfachschulverein for students having successfully completed upper secondary schools (Matura) and applicants having passed the College entrance exam (Studienberechtigungsprüfung) who wish to focus on vocational training in the field of tourism.

The College of Tourism and Leisure imparts general education and specific commercial studies, training in the fields of tourism and gastronomy, specialist studies in at least two foreign languages, knowledge and proficiency in the field of guest service (according to the job profile of Restaurantfachmann/frau), food and beverage operations (according to the job profile of Koch/Köchin) and in the field of administration and customer service (according to the job profile of Gastgewerbeassistent/in, Bürokaufmann/frau or Reisebüroassistent/in).
Practically orientated training guarantees a thorough preparation for employed and self-employed jobs in the various lines of the hospitality and leisure industry and in intermediate and higher commercial administration.
Additionally, the courses of the College of Tourism and Leisure focusing on Third Foreign Language provide sound knowledge and skills in the fields of competence in communication, hotel and travel agency correspondence and specialist terminology with reference to tourism management in three languages.
Our graduates pursue jobs that require a high degree of responsibility and independence in developing regional and supraregional tourism concepts, in planning, coordinating and supervising operational procedures and specific electronic data processing operations, in negotiating and drafting contracts as well as in all business operations calling for foreign language correspondence.
TERMS OF ADMISSION:
Applicants are invited to an entrance interview by appointment in Bad Gleichenberg. It is this that decides on whether admission will or will not be granted. By August those admitted will receive an information leaflet on necessary equipment, dress code and term dates.
PRACTICAL TRAINING DURING THE SUMMER BREAK:
Practical training of a minimum period of 12 weeks is compulsory for all students during the summer break between the second and third semester. It may be carried out in a tourism-related establishment ( - kitchen, service, reception, administration, travel agency - ) in Austria or abroad. The final exam cannot be taken without proper practical training.
STUDENTS’ RESIDENCE AT THE TOURISM SCHOOLS:
The Tourism Schools are run as a private, future-orientated boarding school. As a consequence, our students acquire key qualifications like teamwork, personality development, social skills, leadership qualities and a sense of responsibility. External accommodation is only possible for students whose permanent place of residence has been situated in the districts of Feldbach, Bad Radkersburg or Fürstenfeld for at least three years. The registration form is required proof of this.

Four Semester College with training in Tourism and Hospitality Management in English was first established in 2001.
We are determined to meet the ever-growing job demand for more professionally trained English-speaking tourism experts by offering a two year programme for students eager to meet the challenges of globalization.
Since October 2002 students enrolling at our college have had the opportunity to opt for the new branch of the college where tuition is exclusively or overwhelmingly in English language.
We firmly believe that in-depth training in English is a natural and necessary step to increasing professionalism in one of the fastest growing industries in the world. Also gaining a high level of competence in English is simply a must for everyone in the hospitality field to cope with the impact of the global economy and to guarantee career advancement.

Major factors like internet research classes, in-depth training, computer-supported lessons and internships with hospitality enterprises will contribute to the success of this programme.
The College of Tourism and Leisure Industry is a non-profit, degree-granting institution of higher education, supported by the Styrian Chamber of Commerce. Though our legal status is private, our curriculum is recognized by the government and we are under the supervision of the Ministry of Education.
Our students are enrolled in four-semester programmes featuring courses for executives in the field of hospitality and tourism. The college offers ours students quality career training by combining class room theory with practical, on-the-job experience. On-campus accommodation and tuition are available at a most competitive price.
The courses comprise theoretical and practical teaching in a great variety of subjects of which the following ones are among the most important: English, French, Spanish or Italian, Accounting and Financial Management, Data Processing, Marketing, Economics in the Tourist Industry, Cooking and Serving, Food and Beverage Management and seminars in Tourism Management, Hotel Management, Information Technology as well as Cultural Animation.
Practical Training (internship) of three months’ duration at tourist enterprises between the second and third semesters is compulsory.
Entrance requirements for the college: General certificate of upper secondary education qualifying for university entrance.
