Welcome to Bad Gleichenberg Tourism Schools (Austria)!

Bad Gleichenberg Tourism Schools have always been renowned for their constant high quality training and education since they were founded in 1946-1947. The School strides  to impact the tourism and leisure industry in an innovative and creative way taking into account complex changes in society and economy. Our Philosophy

There are different types of Schools, each of them specialized in specific areas within Tourism. This ensures that the students will have the privilege of taking part in diverse training oriented around practical training and the current market.

We aim to adapt our courses in order to meet the needs and expectations of potential companies and institutes. The courses offered are interdisciplinary and comprehensive, tourism oriented and up-to-date. See below for further information about the variety of Schools.

Through the state-of-the-art private boarding schools, Bad Gleichenberg Tourism Schools aim to improve the key skills of students such as teamwork, character building, social etiquette and leadership qualities. The Schools are loyal to the Total Quality Management system.

Schools

Vocational Course for Tourism (3 years)

The apprenticeship for professions in tourism is already included within the three years of tuition. The main subjects comprise Catering and practical skills. After graduation, the students are eligible to work in various tourism-related professions.

Higher Vocational Course for Tourism (3 years)

After graduating with Matura (A-levels), the students are eligible to work in various tourism-related professions. The main subjects comprise Hotel and Gastronomy Management.

Higher Vocational Course for Tourism (5 years)

After graduating with Matura  (A-levels), the students are eligible to work in various tourism-related professions. The main subjects comprise Foreign Languages, Tourism and Leisure Management and, also, Hotel and Gastronomy Management.


College of Tourism and Leisure Industry (4 semesters / 2 years)

Main areas of training:

  1. Hotel Management, where most of the subjects are taught in German.
  2. Three foreign languages where all subjects are taught in English; a good choice for international students (see below for further information).


College of Tourism and Leisure Industry

The College of Tourism and Leisure Industry was established by the Steirischer Hotelfachschulverein for those students who have succesfully completed their Matura (A-levels) and applicants who have passed the college entrance exam (college entrance exam can be taken at the Tourism Schools).

In terms of organization and accommodation, the college is connected with the Hotel School and the Higher Institute of Tourism. Schooling lasts four semesters. The school year begins on the first Monday of October and ends on the first Friday in June.

The College of Tourism and Leisure industry provides general education and specific comercial studies, training in the areas of tourism and gastronomy, specialized studies in (at least) two foreign languages, knowledge and proficiency in the field of guest service (according to the job profile of Restaurantfachmann/frau), food and beverage operations (according to the job profile of Koch/Köchin) and in the field of administration and customer service (according to the job profile of Gastgewerbeassistent/in, Bürokauffmann/frau or Reisebüroassistent/in).



The training, oriented to practice, guarantees a thorough preparation for labour and self-employed jobs in the various branches of hospitality and leisure industry and in the many fields of commercial administration.

The College of Tourism and Leisure Industry with training in Tourism and Hospitality Management in English was first stablished in 2001.

We firmly believe that in-depth training in English is a natural and necessary step to increase professionalism in one of the fastest growing industries in the world. Besides, gaining a high level of competence in English is just a must for everyone in the hospitality field to cope with the impact of the global economy and to guarantee career promotion.

The courses comprise theoretical and practical teaching in a great variety of subjects; these are among the most important ones: English, French, Italian or Spanish; Accounting and Financial Management; Data Processing; Marketing; Economics in Tourist Industries; Cooking and Serving; Food and Beverage Management and Seminars in Tourism Management, Information Technology as well as Cultural Studies.



Practical training (internship) with a duration of three months at tourism-related enterprises between the second and the third semester is compulsory.

Our graduates pursue jobs that require a high degree of responsibility and independece in developing regional and supraregional tourism concepts, planning, coordinating and supervising operational procedures and specific electronic data processing operations, negotiating and drafting contracts, as well as in all business operations requiring foreign language correspondence.

Terms of admission

Applicants are interviewed by appointment in Bad Gleichenberg. This interview will help to decide whether the admission is granted or not. By August, those applicants accepted will receive an information leaflet on the necessary equipment, dress code and term dates.
