On 21 March 2024, the 27th Styrian Wine Trophy gala took place in great splendour at the Bad Gleichenberg tourism schools. The tastings were held in the presence of a notary and more than 850 wines were submitted.
In the run-up to the event, 45 finalists, i.e. 3 finalist wines in each of 15 categories, were filtered out by means of tastings. The 15 winners were then selected by a jury made up exclusively of qualified sommeliers from WIFI Wein Welt.
One or two winegrowers were rewarded for their achievements with multiple nominations – such as Weinhof Platzer, which led the top field with 1 award from 4 nominations, or Weinhof Leitner, which took home 1 trophy in 3 nominated categories.
The evening opened with a tasting of all 45 finalist wines accompanied by culinary delicacies from award-winning chef Walter Triebl, who also created the vegetarian main course. The 15 winners were then announced and tasted, accompanied by a tasting menu.

The guests were also spoilt in the kitchen and service by the pupils of the Bad Gleichenberg tourism schools. They were rewarded with lots of applause for their outstanding performance. The gala was accompanied by music from the TSBG school band and the band Six Gin, who got the guests going at the after-show party.
The Styrian Wine Trophy took place for the 27th time now and is proof of the many years of close co-operation between the Bad Gleichenberg tourism schools and Styrian wine. The training programme for young sommeliers, which has been running for over 25 years and has already been completed by more than 600 students, is a particularly important component. The consistently outstanding results in the young sommelier competitions, which were rewarded with first and second place in this year’s national competition, testify to the high quality of wine education at the Bad Gleichenberg tourism schools.
