25th Styrian Wine Trophy – A quarter of a century of the Wine Trophy at the Tourism Schools Bad Gleichenberg!
25 years of Weintrophy and still going strong – in a 3-day tasting, which was again held in the presence of the notary public Valentina Herk, the finalists and winners of this year’s competition were chosen from over 900 wines. This year’s competition also featured a novelty – for the first time the coveted trophy was awarded in the Riesling category.
39 finalists, i.e. 3 finalists in each of 19 categories, were filtered out by means of tastings. The 13 winners were chosen by a 14-member jury on the last afternoon.
On Friday 29 April, the award ceremony took place at the Bad Gleichenberg Tourism Schools. The
one or the other winery was rewarded for its achievements with multiple nominations – such as
for example the winery Schmölzer, which was awarded and nominated 2 times, or the winery Rauch and the winery Langmann commonly Lex, which were each nominated in 2 categories.
The trophies were presented by Provincial Councillor Johann Seitinger, Director of Viticulture Werner Luttenberger, Notary Valentina Herk, Wine Queen Katrin Dokter, Head of Tasting Martin Hartinger and Head of School and Campus Peter Kospach.
“We are very pleased to announce the winners of the 25th Styrian Wine Trophy today. Since its beginnings 25 years ago, the Wine Trophy has changed a lot, but so has the wine landscape. But what you can always rely on is the quality of Styrian wines. However, the Styrian Wine Trophy is not only a quality guideline for wine enthusiasts, it has also inspired countless graduates over the past 25 years to delve further into the world of wine and pursue model careers there.
The beginning, however, was always the young sommelier training at our school,” says headmaster Peter Kospach.

The Styrian Wine Trophy took place for the 25th time this year and is proof of the many years of close cooperation between the Bad Gleichenberg tourism schools and the Styrian wine.
Above all, the training to become a young sommelier, which has been around for more than 20 years and has already been completed by more than 600 students, is an important component.
The consistently outstanding sommelier competitions, which have been won twice, are proof of the high quality of the wine training at the Bad Gleichenberg tourism schools.
