Visit at the Opera house (Private grammar school)
The big stage at the Graz Opera was the destination of our private grammar school, which with the musical “Robin Hood” was able to experience an exciting musical day. The day was a real highlight if only because after the hiking day in autumn, this was the first time that an excursion was possible after the Corona winter break.

Shrove Tuesday (Private grammar school)
The fools were loose and even though there was school on Shrove Tuesday, learning took a back seat on this day and fun and fools took the reins. And of course, there were plenty of carnival doughnuts….

Carnival party
Whether monks, fairies or surfer boys, there was everything at our carnival party. On the 1st of March 2022, the time had come. The fourth grade invited to a carnival party in the Festsaal, which was a perfect preparation for their final examination ball. Together as “TSBG Family”, they finally let it rip again after a 2-year break due to Corona. The whole evening was dedicated to the motto “Space”. Highlights included a costume competition and a lottery for a two-day holiday at the Thermenhotel Fontana. A big thank you to all those who supported us, who took part and made this evening an unforgettable one.

Silberberg Exchange
Together stronger, there is no better way to describe this school partnership between the Silberberg Education Centre (Bildungszentrum Silberberg) and the Bad Gleichenberg Tourism Schools. Wine and tourism belong together and how could you learn better from each other than by immersing yourself in the world of the other. For this reason, our young sommeliers were in Silberberg during the last school week as part of our student exchange programme, and at the same time students from the Education Centre Silberberg visited us on our campus. The programme included workshops on bar & spirits, cheese and wine, coffee, social media & online marketing and much more.

Alumni visit at the Campus: Manfred Pschaid, Christina Niederl, Philip Borckenstein, Philip Stieger
It is always a highlight when our successful graduates visit us on our campus and pass on their knowledge in different workshops. Philip Stieger, F&B Director of Falkensteiner Hotels & Residences Punta Skala, kicked things off by presenting the resort as well as the internship opportunities to the students. Before it was time for the semester break, Manfred Pschaid, KLYO founder and owner of an event agency, visited the campus. He told a lot of exciting stories about his projects and thus inspired our pupils and students. In March, Philip Borckenstein from the Therme Loipersdorf visited the students to talk about a possible internship at the thermal spa, as well as Christina Niederl with her

International Winter Cocktail Contest
At the end of February, the International Winter Cocktail Contest took place at DAS SONNREICH Loipersdorf, as it does every year, where TSBG students were finally in action once again.
The TSBG team helped in the kitchen and service and was completely thrilled with the location and the event setting of our partner hotel.

Junior cooks
While the junior cookery units in our private grammar school were also possible in the winter semester, our external cooking talents only start in the summer semester – but with a lot of energy and motivation.
In the first unit, things got Italian right away and pasta was produced, but of course it continued with numerous other delicacies in each unit. The junior cooks of our private grammar school were equally energetic, for example, they conjured up excellent spring rolls and besides that, they also received a visit from the Styrian education director Elisabeth Meixner.

Fair of the Kastner Company
It has been two years now since our students were in action at the Kastner Fair in Bad Gleichenberg. This year it was finally possible again after the long Corona break. For our second classes, who were in charge of the event together with housekeeper Maria Wippel, it was one of the first assignments they took part in, so their motivation and excitement was accordingly high. Of course, they mastered their task with great excellence.
The Kastner company has been a partner of the tourism schools for many years.

Kulturexkursion KTF
In the last week before the Easter holidays, the students of the fourth grade went on a cultural excursion to Slovenia with Stefanie Bittendorfer-Dunst. In addition to the capital Maribor, Ptuj was also on the programme.
The students had a few relaxing days there together before the big thrill of the final exams started in May.

Up the hill and down the slope…
Finally, skiing lessons again and this year with a particularly large group – the first and second classes of the tourism schools and our second class from the private grammar school were in Schladming to enjoy Winter Wonderland once again in the last week before the Easter holidays. Great fun was guaranteed!

Open Day at the Campus
In the week before the Easter holidays, we welcomed a group of potential new students to the campus who wanted to get to know the school and of course they got down to business in the kitchen, but also in service, accounting, tourism geography, English or marketing….

Easter egg hunt with Ukrainian children
Our students from the Tourism College surprised children from Ukraine with an Easter egg hunt in the Kurpark. They baked Easter bunnies, sweet Easter bread, marzipan carrots and even the traditional Ukrainian Easter bread “Kulitsch”.
The Easter nests were lovingly prepared before the children went on a joint search in the Bad Gleichenberg spa gardens.

Cheers to the newly graduated TSBG Young Sommeliers
At the end of April and beginning of May, the new TSBG Young Sommeliers received their diplomas. Of course, to celebrate the day, a toast was made with a good glass of Styrian wine.
The additional training has a long tradition at the tourism schools and, in addition to numerous prizes at national competitions, has awakened a passion for the subject of wine in countless tourism students, from which some of them have made a remarkable career.

Graduates meet in a class of their own at the final tasting of the Wine Trophy
Since 2018, the final tasting of the Styrian Wine Trophy has been conducted by a selected jury of experts, most of whom are members of the TSBG Family. The meeting is therefore very family-like each time. This year, too, we had the pleasure of welcoming a very special group for our 25th anniversary. – Thank you very much for coming and for your support!

It’s ALL about cheese – Awarding of the Cheese Connoisseur Diploma
The cheese connoisseur training has a long tradition at the tourism schools and is carried out with passion by Alfred Lindner. Every year he is supported by cheese sommelier Josef Stiendl from Berglandmilch GmbH, who was also present this year when our newly qualified experts received their cheese connoisseur diplomas.

Pepper workshop with Finest Food Age
We always knew that our pupils and students are fiery like pepper, but just how exciting pepper can be was conveyed to our college and HLT classes at the beginning of May by Dr. Bernhard Bachna, the managing director of Finest Food Age, in a workshop organised by service teacher Alois Schöllauf.

Assignment at the Lohberger class reunion
Our third and fourth classes of the HLT were on duty at the big “class reunion” of the Lohberger company, where they worked together with Mike Süßer and other greats of the cooking scene.

Concierges received their Les Clefs d’Or diplomas in the double anniversary year
“The guest is king” or “reading the guest’s wish from his lips” – this is easier said than done, and it takes a lot of training and tact to fulfil, understand and ideally also anticipate guest or customer wishes.
How to do this is taught at the Bad Gleichenberg tourism schools in the additional training dedicated to the area of reception/concierge in cooperation with Les Clefs D’Or.
“In our digital age, assistance in the online area and with digital tools is becoming increasingly important. We place great emphasis on this in our training. And this year we have two reasons to celebrate, namely 75 years of Tourism Schools Bad Gleichenberg and 70 years of Austrian membership of Clef’s D’Or,” says Alois Schöllauf, head of training.

Practice Day in the Chocolate Paradise
On the first day of summer, the 2nd classes of the HLT went on a very special excursion to the Zotter chocolate factory. While the class enjoyed chocolate and schnitzel, they learned a lot about successful entrepreneurship from Mrs. Zotter herself, who then took the time for an exclusive tour.
“Very informative and interesting to look behind the scenes of such a company. The tasting was totally delicious and no one left hungry. The appreciation of the Zotter family towards the producers, employees etc. is also exemplary! You can see that the whole family puts their heart and soul into the company and its interests, and everyone can take a leaf out of their book,” student Johanna Kogler said enthusiastically.
Many thanks for the great hospitality!
