“Schüler helfen Steirern”– pupils donate for a good cause
On the 2nd of June, the students of the Bad Gleichenberg Tourism Schools organised a charity dinner at Schloss Kornberg. The guests were offered a 4-course menu including wine accompaniment and an entertaining social programme. The cheque amounting to no less than € 22,000.00 was handed over to the donation organisation of the Kleine Zeitung “Steirer helfen Steirern”.
It all started at the beginning of the school year with an assignment in the event management class, in which the 3rd classes of the Advanced Secondary School for Tourism were to set up a charity event of their choice.
Gripped by ambition, the class dedicated themselves passionately to their project and, with a little support from the teaching team, organised the event, found sponsors, sold tickets, designed the evening, cooked excellent food and much more.
The output was impressive. Roughly 250 guests were welcomed with an aperitif and small appetisers from Vulcano. The four-course gourmet menu was then served in the courtyard of Schloss Kornberg, and it was particularly important to the class to use only regional and seasonal products. The Feldbach brass band provided the musical opening.
In addition to the culinary delights, the highlight of the evening was the presentation of the donation cheque in the incredible amount of 22,000.00 euros to the Kleine Zeitung. Thanks to the numerous, generous supporters and sponsors, this enormous amount can be used to help those in need in Styria.
“For us as a class it was an unforgettable experience, learning by doing in the truest sense. It wasn’t easy, because we set ourselves a big goal with the event at Schloss Kornberg. But now we can be all the more proud. We would also like to thank all the sponsors of the event once again. Without them, such a large amount would never have been raised,” says Valentin Skalnik, a pupil of HL3b and a member of the organisation team of “Schüler helfen Steirern”.
