In March 1980, Ernst & Berta Fasching opened a bed & breakfast with 35 beds in Fischbach.
In 1993, the next generation, Peter and Karola Fasching, took over their parents’ business.
At intervals of about 5 years, the house was regularly renewed and developed further in order to delight every single guest, again and again.
40 years later, the Dorfhotel Fasching****s is one of the five best wellness hotels in Styria and employs 55 people.
Tradition and family with a vigilant eye for the future was and is still the motto of Peter and Karola Fasching, the second generation running the Dorfhotel Fasching. They took over the business with great plans. Their vision was to build a leading wellness and well-being hotel in Fischbach. They have always tried to pass on their passion for their profession to their five children, who, as befits a hotelier family, have grown up with and in the business.
It was not surprising that in 2006 the eldest son David decided to attend the tourism school in Bad Gleichenberg, and five years later he graduated there from secondary school. He has remained true to his great passion, cooking, and now leads his 20-people kitchen team at the Dorfhotel Fasching with great devotion.
Tasting roots – David Fasching experienced, tasted and learned this philosophy from his father Peter from an early age. Today, David continues to pursue this philosophy with enthusiasm together with his wife Elisabeth. “Elisabeth and I are very close to nature. When we hike through the Fischbach forests, look for mushrooms or just sit by the river with our sons Josef and Gabriel and listen quietly, we always get inspiration for some new dishes”.
The twins Anna and Florian Fasching followed their big brother’s example to Bad Gleichenberg and also attended the five-year training programme at the HLT.
In the meantime, Anna has found her vocation in the area of health and well-being and, after another training as a medical masseuse and certified fitness and health trainer, she now works in the SPA and at the reception of the Dorfhotel.
Florian Fasching also looks after the well-being of the guests, but he does this as a restaurant manager. After graduating from high school, he went off and worked all over the world, including on the MS Europa. Whether it’s the wine cellar, wine purchasing or wine tasting with guests, the graduate sommelier is completely and utterly passionate about his subject.
In 2019, Martin Fasching graduated from the campus of the Bad Gleichenberg tourism schools.
He is particularly passionate about the bar and likes to work on new creations for the guests. But before he dedicates his talents to the family business, he is drawn further afield. The experience he gains will one day benefit the family and the Dorfhotel Fasching in a way or another.
One is still waiting at the starting line. Lorenz, the youngest of the Fasching siblings, will attend the secondary school of the campus in autumn 2021 and become part of the TSBG family soon. His numerous experiences in dealing with guests, big and small, will certainly come in handy. And at some point, when he has his diploma in his pocket and has travelled the world, he too will have found the talent that he wants to bring into the family business.
For the members of the Fasching family, however, family does not end with their children and grandchildren: “Actually, our family is much bigger, because our whole team belongs to it. Without their warmth and competence, without their natural laughter, everything would be worth half as much. Altogether, day after day, they create a place one likes to return to – a piece of home.”
The TSBG spirit of the Fasching family:
David Fasching
“I was born with a passion for gastronomy. However, since the very varied practical lessons at school, I have really started to burn for it.”
Florian Fasching:
“The Young Sommelier training at the Bad Gleichenberg Tourism Schools awakened my great interest in wine and laid the foundation for the Diploma Sommelier training.”

Anna Fasching:
“I was able to gain essential insights into guest services and working at the reception during my training as a concierge at the tourism school in Bad Gleichenberg.”
Martin Fasching:
“My training in Bad Gleichenberg was not only important for making new friends, but also for my own personal development. Furthermore, in Bad Gleichenberg, special emphasis was always laid on linking the knowledge from the different areas of the training in order to then use it sensibly in practice.”
