Concierges received their Les Clefs d’Or diplomas
“The guest is king” or “reading the guest’s wish from his lips” – this is easier said than done, and it takes a lot of training and tact to fulfil, understand and ideally also anticipate guest or customer wishes.
How to do this is taught at the Bad Gleichenberg tourism schools in the additional training reception/concierge in cooperation with Les Clefs D’Or.
“In our digital age, assistance in the online area and with digital tools is becoming increasingly important. We place great emphasis on this in our training,” says Alois Schöllauf, training manager.
In June, our newly graduated young concierges were proud to receive their diplomas.
Information Day at the Private Grammar School
Just in time before the summer holidays, the future students of our private grammar school and their parents met for the information afternoon of the first classes. While the parents received all the important information about the start of school in autumn, the young ladies and gentlemen were busy preparing sweet delicacies for their parents under the supervision of our dear Petra Knittelfelder.
The holiday’s fun programme at the campus of the private schools
Baking chocolate cookies, creating delicious blueberry muffins, taking a look at a large kitchen, shaking cocktails at a real bar and carrying plates were just some of the highlights of the first summer workshop, which took place as part of the holiday’s fun programme of the municipality of Bad Gleichenberg.
All the participating sweet tooths got their money’s worth at the workshop.
Get-to-Know-You Weeks at the Campus of the Tourism Schools
The first classes of the tourism schools in Bad Gleichenberg started the school year with the traditional “get-to-know-you” weeks, while their classmates from the higher classes were still on holiday, on internship or on duty at the EUROSKILLS.
This time is used to get oriented first. To get to know the teachers and the schedule, and of course to make their first experiences in practical lessons and simply to have fun together and to get used to the new environment.
There was a special highlight this year, especially for our college and for our Academy for Tourism and Taste. Our college students had the opportunity to get to know each other at a Welcome Dinner, our TGA students at a Welcome Lunch….
Teachers’ Team Building on the Teichalm
Before the school stress really started this year, the teachers spent the first teacher team building weekend in St. Kathrein am Offenegg and on the Teichalm. Many thanks to Karin Hirschmugl for the organisation.
Hiking day
At the beginning of every school year, there is of course the obligatory hiking day. It is simply a great opportunity to get to know each other and have fun together in nature.
For our TSBG classes, after a farmyard BBQ at its best – thanks to our exceptional kitchen team around Petra Knittelfelder – a short hike on the Parapluie and a trip to the Styrassic Park were on the agenda.
For our grammar school classes it turned animalistic at Herberstein Zoo!
The TSBG graduation ball – everything is different this year!
The graduation ball of this year’s 5th grade differed in many ways from previous graduation parties – first and foremost by the fact that it took place in the magnificent ambience of the Schlossberg Restaurant in Graz just one week after the start of school. After last year’s Corona break, it was the first ball for our students, and the atmosphere was equally festive. And even though a lot of work and brainpower went into the realisation of the event, the hard work definitely paid off. They provided the TSBG family with an unforgettable celebration.

Welcome Wine tasting with Max Glatz and Campus visit by Peter Schmid
There is nothing better than graduates coming back to the campus and inspiring our pupils and students with their own passion!
At the start of school, two successful graduates paid us tribute: Max Glatz, prospective Master of Wine, tasted wine with the college students in the Kellergasse.
And
Peter Schmid made a detour to his former place of work and talked about his model career in the USA.
Thank you very much for your visit!
Vienna Days of the Tourism Colleges
The students of the 3KTF were in Vienna at the beginning of October. Sightseeing, restaurant and hotel tours to Hotel Sacher, Guesthouse Vienna and Hilton Vienna Danube Waterfront – one highlight followed the other.
The ORF Report Team on the TSBG Campus
Back in February, the team from ORF (Austrian Broadcasting) visited the campus to report on how the health resort and our school are doing in the Corona crisis. In October, we welcomed them back for a stocktaking. For this, they filmed extensively on the campus and interviewed students and pupils.
The Koch.Campus hosted by the Rauch siblings
The Koch.Campus on the topic of pork took place in the magical autumnal village of Trautmannsdorf in October. The Rauch siblings invited some big names of the Austrian culinary scene such as Heinz Reitbauer, Andreas Döllerer, Hans Peter Fink, Hans Reisetbauer, Bernhard Ott and many more, as well as gourmet bloggers and journalists.
The students of our tourism college had the unique opportunity to work on the event.
The Koch.Campus is a non-profit association made up of 52 personalities from cuisine, vineyards and agriculture who want to further develop the overall concept of Austrian cuisine together.
Our grammar school participated in the TV show 1,2 or 3
The current 2nd grade of the Privatgymnasium Bad Gleichenberg was selected for the TV show 1,2 or 3.
The pupils Marie Violette Hollerer (Bad Gleichenberg) and Anna Lackner (Straden) represented the honour of the class in the popular TV show and came 2nd. Congratulations!
The Junior Cooks Season 2021/22 has begun!
As every year, the first session of the Junior Chefs took place in October, where 11-13 year old cooking talents can get a taste of the profession of chef once a month at the campus of the tourism schools.
After a short introductory round, things got serious right away and after a short time the junior chefs were already preparing their first pancakes.
Grape harvest at the Silberberg
Our prospective young sommeliers could not have chosen a better day for the grape harvest at the Silberberg education centre, our partner school. They were out and about in the vineyards in absolutely perfect weather.
TSBG goes Munich
It’s been a long time since a group of students from the tourism schools travelled to Munich to be on duty in the VIP area at a Champions League match of Bayern Munich.
On All Souls’ Day, it was the first time since the outbreak of the corona pandemic that the pupils and students were allowed to be there.
Presentation of the EUROSKILLS certificates
The excellent work of our TSBG team at the EUROSKILLS 2021 in September had to be rewarded appropriately, of course.
For this reason, the Director of the Chamber of Commerce Karl-Heinz Dernoschegg came to the TSBG Campus and handed over the Euroskills diplomas to all participants. He had also provided for a Euroskills goodie bag for everyone.
TSBG goes Female Future Festival!
For the first time this year, the Female Future Festival took place in Graz and TSBG students were there to be inspired by keynote speakers and to network. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Martina Pristauz, who organised tickets for everyone.
TSBG goes EUROSKILLS 2021!
One year late, the EUROSKILLS took place this year in Graz from 22-26 September. Around 400 young, fully trained professionals from 19 nations and 48 different professions took part in the European Championship of Professions. This unique event was organised by the Styrian Chamber of Commerce. And as a school of the Styrian Chamber of Commerce, it was of course a matter of course to support the organisation with a good portion of TSBG power!
Students from seven classes, more precisely from TGA2, HL2a and b, HL3a and b and HL 4 a and b, were already on duty for a week before the regular start of school from September 16. Whether in the Stadthalle at the big Welcome Reception or at the other highlights or in the Schwarzl Freizeitzentrum in the WKO Lounge, the TSBG students demonstrated their skills under the watchful eyes of the service teachers Alois Schöllauf and Josef Sorger.
“The Euroskills show what great skills are actually behind specialised professions and the event is a very important sign that these professions must also receive the necessary and highly deserved recognition. Especially in times of a serious shortage of skilled workers, every measure that helps to further improve the standing and image of skilled professions is right and important. That is why it was so important for us to actively support the Chamber of Commerce in its implementation. Once again, I would like to thank all the students and teachers involved for their great work,” says school and campus director Peter Kospach.
